This banana chia kefir smoothie proves that Kiku Corner is into kefir these days! Read about making your own kefir here and our kefir mango lassi here. This version uses banana, chia seeds, and a dash of vanilla.
Donatello and I eat bananas all the time. We always have two bunches in our fruit bowl, one ready to eat and the other unripe. This way we always have one available for a quick snack. It also means that sometimes we have an overripe banana, which is perfect for this kind of smoothie as it will add more sweetness.
The recipe calls for chia seeds, which add texture, thickness, and additional nutrients. They are dry and need to re-hydrate in a liquid, so this recipe requires a few hours to settle before drinking.
If you don’t have any chia, you could also substitute in the same amount of instant oatmeal.
The banana chia kefir smoothie has a hint of vanilla flavour in this recipe, which uses vanilla extract. A substitution for this could be cinnamon or cardamom (my personal favourite).
